Dutch Tilders, known as the “Godfather of Australian Blues,” has been diagnosed with cancer. A benefit concert will be held Thursday, July 29, at The Thornbury Theatre in Victoria. Many musicians and friends have offered support and the lineup is still being set. Already on the bill are Dutch Tilders, Chain, Kevin Borich Express, Chris Finnen, Steve Russell, Geoff Achison, Lloyd Spiegel, Stevie Page, Jeannie Lushes, and many more.

All proceeds will be used to support Tilders during ongoing treatment.

Upon seeing this new item, Lynne Wright, Tilders' long-time manager wrote this:

"Such a shock for many now finding out. After managing Dutch for over a decade I am very priviledged already to have spent so much quality time touring and socialising with my friend. He is in high spirit. You are very kind to let others know through BluesWax and we are keeping the faith that the treatments may be ongoing but duly will keep our bluesman with us for longer than is expected.

"He can still perform and will continue to do so. Soon Dutch will be back on solids we hope and this will sustain him during chemotherapy beginning next week. The radiotherapy finishes tomorrow and has if successful rid him of the esophagus tumour. Then he will have chemo to keep the liver cancer at bay.

"No complaints from our strong-willed man. Some say he is too stuborn to die and the way he is acting I believe his willpower will beat the odds.

"As soon as he found out the news he sat and wrote a new song "The Journey" about his situation now. That's a Bluesman for you! It is brilliant with upbeat new style music and lyrics.
