His mother was a singing guitarist who had worked with Memphis Minnie and Bessie Smith. He briefly played pro football, and was a Golden Glove boxer who turned pro in the mid 40's. He played & recorded with Muddy Waters, Bo Diddley and Howlin' Wolf, and recorded his last works with Junior Wells and Buddy Guy (1970)
