2005 Self Titled/Self Produced

This band hails from San Diego California and provides a very enjoyable self release. This, their first studio CD was nominated for best blues album of 2005 by the San Diego Music Awards. This is the type of band that loves playing and performing the blues and lets the music speak for itself. I enjoyed this disc a lot and could picture myself digging these guys jamming in a small club setting. My two favorite tunes on this disc were “It’ll Come To Ya” and “You Is So Mean”, which really highlight their talents throughout. I give this disc a 3.9 out of 5.0 on my STLBluesometer rating and recommend giving the mp3’s on their website a listen and judge for yourself if you want to add this disc to your blues collection.

The band is:

Steve Bulger, Harp and Lead Vocals
Marc Marrewa, Guitar and Backing Vocals
Rollin Rodgers, Bass and Backing Vocals
Mark “Doc” Holladay, Organ
D.J. Jackson, Drums

The tracks are:

1. Roll The Dice –good upbeat jam with harp whaling
2. Mary Ann- nice version of a Ray Charles tune
3. Snakeskin On My Feet- cool organ backing and upbeat tempo
4. Reconsider, Baby– Lowell Fulson classic revisited with a slow smooth style
5. Say Yes To My Baby- harmonica shined
6. Walking Through The Park- Muddy Waters classic covered nicely
7. It’ll Come To Ya- great hard driving blues jam
8. You Is So Mean- moaning harp, gritty vocals and classy keys
9. Just A Little Bit- nice mix of harp and guitar
10. Met Her Last Night- enjoyable group jam
