All I can say is… OH YEAH!!! This is just some downright awesome Mississippi Blues straight off Farish Street. Every song is oozing the blues or tapping your toes. Zac is well known for his song writing and studio background and six of the nine offerings on this album prove why! Zac has and incredible voice that is accompanied by some soul felt guitar playing and an amazing group of talented musicians backing him. I can’t tell you how many times I have put this album in the player and just jammed along. It is refreshing seeing a fellow believer reach into the blues. Look forward to more of Zac in the future and hope to see him live very soon!

Tracks:

1. Mighty High – awesome opening tune to set the tone of this album, gospel soul rockin’, toe tapping, reach in and grab you and take you with him on this train
2. Sugarman – guitar work is very reminiscent of Mr. Cray’s styling, great organ work as well
3. Who’s Knockin – Great catchy tune with some lip smacking harp, and true blues irony
4. It’s Cool with Me – 12 bars at it’s best, well felt and tight opening with the bass and guitar sucking you right in from the beginning
5. That’s Why – slows things down a bit, but his voice takes you to where his heart is, the horn section is a welcome and ear pleasing addition
6. Mannish Boy – what can you say, does it get any bluesier than this classic
7. It Hurts Me Too – Bring on that soul searching harp opener, classic and mesmerizing duet vocals by Zac and Miss Mickey Champion (her voice can sure make you wish you were a microphone!) and some great guitar riffs
8. Comfort of a Man – wonderful song, awesome vocals and some real heart felt guitar playing
9. A Hole in My Heart – slow blues guitar and vocals at their finest

Terrific album, definitely a must for any blues collection. This one rates a 4.5 on the STLBluesometer.

Remember, you don’t need to be blue to appreciate the Blues, ‘til next time,
