Portland Musicians Turn Out for Brain Cancer Survivor

www.grandblues.orgTen-year-old brain cancer survivor Emme Ek will be introduced as Portland, Oregon’s first Blue Star Kid on November 15 at a benefit to be held in her honor at the Trails End Saloon in Oregon City. Area favorites Robbie Laws, Boogie Bone, Rae Gordon, Ward Stroud and The T-Bones are performing to help raise funds for the Ek family’s increasing medical bills.

The Blue Star Connection is an international not-for-profit organization that provides children who have cancer and other serious illnesses musical instruments. Local musicians can help deliver the instruments to the children in the hospital or at their homes and may offer them access backstage to their shows or provide them with music lessons. Artists Jimi Bott, Dave Kahl and Steve Williams have become Portland’s first ambassadors for the connection.

The November 15 benefit starts at 1:00 p.m. Rae Gordon will open with a gospel set. The show runs twelve hours and will end at 1:00 a.m. with an all-star jam led by Ward Stroud. More information about the event can found on Cascade Blues Association calendar at www.cascadebluesassociation.org.
