'The
Muddy'
So
many festivals, so little time. Festival season is
in full swing, and to STLBlues that means musical
adventure on the road. Labor Day weekend started at
the 21st anniversary of the Budweiser
Illinois Blues Festival, and ended at the Big
Muddy Blues Festival. Known as 'The Muddy', this event
just happens to be held in one of the top 5 indigenous
Blues towns to be found anywhere.
The blues weather window opened up just long enough
on Saturday to pull the show off, and Sunday brought
in good weather for the final day. The crowds filled
the Landing to capacity, and once again the Big Muddy
Blues Festival delivered what they came for.....the
Blues, St. Louis style! It's easy to fill 3 stages
with great St. Louis talent, names like Kim Massie,
Alvin Jett, Leroy Pierson, Billy Peek, Big George
Brock, Marquise Knox, and so many others.
Some big crowd pleasers from out of town included
E.C. Scott & Smoke, Joe Louis Walker, Guy Forsyth,
Walter 'Wolfman' Washington, and more. Artist/writer
Kevin Belford was on hand at the Blues Society booth,
signing copies of his new release 'Devil
At The Confluence', the first comprehensive book
ever published on the history of the blues music of
St. Louis. The Big Muddy is a world class blues event,
and this year demonstrated once again that St. Louis
is truly a home of the Blues!
